I am on a rocky shore,
the cold Pacific rim is lapping and rushing over my feet,
When I close my eyes I can hear the rocks shuffling around each other with each wave.
When I open them I can see the mist and the low-hanging clouds billowing in.
I imagine orcas leaping from the water just beyond them, out of my ability to see.
I walk until I come to a large piece of driftwood left in my path and I take a seat.
I watch the Puget Sound it never comes any closer to me.
There is a small tidepool beside me full to the brim with living things,
a starfish is gazing at me.
A pod of anemones waves back as if begging me to come in for a closer look.
I answer the call and roll up my sleeves,
crouching to dip my fingertip into their universe.
The frigid water is refreshing I feel more at ease.
A deep breath washes through my body.
The misting rain leaves tiny diamonds scattered over everything.
All of the stressors, all of the worries that followed me from the day…
All of the fears over what may or may not come to be.
All of these are washed away,
carried into nothingness by the waves breaking before me.
My finger tickles against the Anemone’s tummy,
it’s tendrils pull into a hug around me.
The sound of distant thunder congratulates me.
Welcome to a brand new day.
